Washington, D.C., April 14, 2011 - To identify the most relevant sustainability metrics for corporate leaders, NAEM this week invited EHS and sustainability decision-makers to complete the ‘Green Metrics that Matter’ survey.

Launched last year among NAEM’s Board of Regents, the research project compares the metrics external stakeholders use to evaluate a company’s sustainability performance with the metrics companies track internally.

Understanding the discrepancies between these approaches is the first step toward improving the clarity, relevancy and value of external sustainability reporting, according to NAEM Executive Director Carol Singer Neuvelt.

“Up to this point there has been a flood of external requests for information, without a clear understanding of what information actually matters to corporate leaders,” she said.

By opening the survey up to a broader group of EHS and sustainability practitioners, NAEM hopes to provide insight into best practices and a much-needed voice for the business community, Neuvelt said.

“We believe this will be a useful learning tool for companies whose systems are just maturing or those who would like to be more proactive when it comes to environmental, health and safety.”
