Speaker biographies:

Carol Carey

Carol Carey is the Global EHS Learning Leader for the GE Energy business. She is responsible for the development and management of the digital EHS learning content for the company. Additionally she is responsible for managing and supporting all classroom and virtual EHS training needs for the GE Energy business. She also has EHS facility compliance responsibility for the GE Energy Learning Center including VPP recertification efforts and GE's "Health Ahead" initiative.

Ms. Carey began her career with the General Electric Co. in 1980 as an environmental specialist working at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, a naval nuclear propulsion design and training lab. She moved into an environmental engineer role and was responsible for the management and disposal of their nonradioactive hazardous waste. In 1990, she took a position as the Environmental Manager for the Apparatus Service Division, managing environmental compliance for 67 service centers in the US. In 1995 she became the EHS Manager for the Contractual Services business, managing EHS compliance for 60+ power plants globally. In 2001, she joined the Energy Learning Center to initiate the development of online EHS learning for GE.

Ms. Carey has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology & Environmental Science. She also has a master's degree in Environmental Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

James D. Basore

James Basore is the Training Manager for the Environment Health and Safety Division at the Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He is also a member of the University of California's System-wide Training and Education Working Group, and the Department of Energy's Cross-complex Learning & Training Team. Both are focused on improving the efficiency and efficacy of ES&H training within their respective ecosystems.

Before joining Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Mr. Basore helped shape the successful development of EH&S online training programs at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Golden Gate University. In each position, he brought focus to measuring the effectiveness of training within the organization and helping to systematize the delivery of training throughout the organizations.

He holds an MBA degree from Golden Gate University and a Masters Degree in Education from San Francisco State University.

Chris Milici

Chris Milici is the Director of Global Environment, Health & Safety and Security for John Crane Inc., a division of Smiths Group, plc. Based in Warwick, Rhode Island, he has overall EHS and Security responsibility for John Crane's approximately 7,000 employees in more than 200 facilities worldwide. He manages a variety of initiatives, including EHS sustainability efforts, auditing programs, management systems, and global security programs.

Prior to joining the company, Mr. Milici was a Manager of EHS for Textron Inc., where he was responsible for the design, implementation and management of EHS initiatives for the enterprise, including EHS Management Systems, compliance programs, auditing, and policies and standards. He was with Textron for five years, including one year at its Fluid & Power Division.

Mr. Milici serves on the planning committee for the International Audit Protocol Consortium and the New England Chapter of NAEM. He is also the chairman of his town's Permanent Building Committee and is the President of the New England Region Cadillac & LaSalle Club.

He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
